Paint

Update for Thurdsay March 5
1. I don’t know if Kim and Alex finished Marilyn, if not paint on.
2. Peggy, Stephanie and maybe Cheryl can/will continue on the two Burger Palace pieces. Incidentally, we need to paint the word “Burger” at the top of one, and “Palace” at the top of the other. Open to suggestions on best way to do this (overhead projector?)
3. Diane is doing the aging on the lockers – we will use her hand on all 3 pieces. She is only in on Monday’s
4. I will be making the “locker stencil” and could use a helper. Hopefully will be able to test it out. The stencil will be outlined on the set piece and probably painted by hand. There are 84 so lots of work soon.
5. A note on taping. This may sound confusing: the two rolling locker pieces will be place down with the lockers facing up. The large piece (we haven’t really seen it yet) will be placed on sawhorses to line up with the rolling lockers and we will use the rolling lockers as masters.
6. The band stand and the bed need to be primed. Remember the “stock primer” in the paint room has become the undercoat for the lockers, so we need to keep enough to do the large piece currently unfinished and standing against the south wall.
Based on the above assess if you want or need to be there. All welcome.

Update: Feb 24
The side drops (for faces), locker drop and rolling lockers were primed last night - thanks to all who helped. On Wednesday - Peggy will be painting the side drops yellow and starting to add the faces (see below). This Thursday we will be taping one (or both) of the rolling lockers - then adding the yellow over top. Will need 3 (plus me) at most. Let me know - thanks

The first five colours for Grease have been determined. The first - Killer Blonde (great name) will be used on the lockers, the background of two set pieces in the soda shop scene and the two tall portraits.  The red will be used throughout to highlight. The purple (Private Dancer) will be used in the bedroom for the large pillows and accent pillows on the beds. Bean Bag Toss will be the colour of the bed linen/covers. The light blue will be for the benches in front of lockers - and I'm sure will find it's way as a second accent colour throughout the show.

As these scans do not reflect the true colour, a sheet will be posted on the bulletin board outside the rehearsal hall for everyone's use - with actual samples attached.

Note the two tall portraits at stage right and left (click on image to enlarge). We will be painting the same, one may appear to look like Marilyn Monroe, the other like James Dean. Any likeness is purely accidental.

The size: about 28 feet tall, the top width 8 feet and the botton 2 feet. These set pieces should be available very soon. Please Note: this image (and others to follow) are not images of our set, just pieces of these sets will be our guides to what is desired.

These lockers need to be reproduced 4 high (not sure how many wide - 12 perhaps) and on two set pieces - one will be a wooden drop, the other will be on wheels. We need a stencil - can be a single locker or a set of four - whatever seems be best. The colours are not purple to pink - this will be done by lighting - however we do not know what the background colour is - yet. Update: background colour is Killer Blonde - making varied lighting easy.

Left is an image of what the bedroom scene will look like. The large backdrops represent "pillows" (seen as pink and green). We will be using two tones of purple. The larger to be "Private Dancer" and the smaller a darker shade. Both could have patterns. We will purchase material and make the pillows on 1/2 inch plywood. (will confirm props will make these) Everything below the purple pillows will be close to the Bean Bag Toss yellow. The pillows on the bed will be purple. There will be a small table between the beds, which we will paint purple.
